Located
on 21 acres of hilly pasture land near Watauga Lake in the mountains
of northeast
Tennessee, Mountain Spirit Alpacas is a family business breeding a
pedigree herd of healthy elite alpacas with sound conformation and
superior fiber
quality – a herd that meets the highest standards in the commercial
fiber industry for specialty fleece -- alpacas that will be sought after
as breeding stock for fiber herds of the future in the developing global
market.
Since
1984, the alpaca industry has experienced dynamic growth, with many
well-established breeders throughout North America encouraging the
development of smaller farms and providing them with quality livestock,
breeding services, and mentoring. Meanwhile, a sustainable fiber manufacturing
industry has been developing more slowly; however, the alpaca business
is ultimately about the alpaca’s fleece, and there is no future
for any herd or breeder who is not focused on improving fiber characteristics
to meet goals defined by the commercial fiber industry and the market
for finished products. |

After
starting with a foundation herd of high quality females, we focused
on finding the best genetics and right herdsire for every breeding
opportunity, in order to increase likelihood that each successive
generation is an improvement on the prior generation and the end
result is a homogeneous herd of elite alpacas. Our herdsires are
from Snowmass Alpacas, which has become one of the premier alpaca
breeders, recognized for their consistent production of top quality
animals with elite fleece. Our uncompromising commitment to high
quality goes beyond animal selection and breeding decisions. We also
follow best management practices to improve herd health, longevity,
and physical characteristics. Our animals are kept in excellent condition,
with as much emphasis placed on their health and well-being as on
their breeding and marketable fleece. Additionally, we strive to
know the needs of our customers, and provide ongoing exceptional
service and support to satisfy their needs and facilitate their success. |
The products and services we offer include the following: - Selling
breeding females and their offspring, including maidens, potential herdsires,
and fiber animals and pets
- Providing start-up assistance to new buyers and breeders
- Offering herd sire breeding services regionally;
- Selling raw fiber as well as hand-made alpaca items.
